All,<BR> <BR>Something to read when you have time and nothing else to do. It is foggy with a light drizzle this moning. I was just sitting with my wife Debbie, drinking coffee, and just wanted to write something. <BR> <BR>Hope that you enjoy reading.<BR> <BR>Roger<BR> <BR> <BR>As most of you already know it has always been my desire to promote the interaction of both professional and amateur astronomers, as well as book authors, astronomy editors, and other from throughout the country. <BR> <BR>Most importantly the development of friendships. I have already sent some of these pictures before, but wanted to add the names, as all have contributed at one time or another to the LVAS Observers Challenge. <BR> <BR>A little bio on the NC group. Maybe some of you reading this might be interesting in corresponding with some of these guys, now or in the future. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Steve Davis </STRONG>is an electronics engineer, but is more mechanical as he can make anything for a telescope. He can rebuild a Meade SC focuser to the highest level, eliminating image shift, has performed many electronic repairs on LX-200's. He is also a telescope builder. Steve and I have been friends for many years, and observe together whenever possible. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Dr. Don Olive </STRONG>is an astronomy and physics professor at GWU (Gardner-Webb University). A great guy that plays music in our local coffee shop on Wednesday nights. Don is one of those guys that everyone likes and enjoys being around.<BR>GWU has rights to a robotic scope in New Mexico, and Don has said that he wants to do a better job as a contributor to the observers challenge utilizing this scope. See his latest image and the scope on the "fabulous" LVAS website by Rob. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Tom English </STRONG>is an astronomy and physics professor at Guilford Community College in Jamestown NC. Tom was at GWU for well over ten years but moved when his wife got a job in the Greensboro area. Tom is one of the most brilliant and talented guys that you could ever hope to meet. He can star hop to most any object just glancing at an atlas, and seems to know everything about every object in the sky...amazing. We became friends many years ago, and today I still call his my astronomy mentor. I learned so much from him by observing and talking with him, working on NL articles and just being friends. We also share a love for pro-cycling. If I want to know the latest on something in the international world of cycling I contact him. Example, Lance is going to use LOOK pedals this year instead of Shimano...now this is really something...really. I use Shimano pedals and Nike Lance II shoes. I know, not relevant. If anyone is working on a astronomy research project, Tom could help. I was honored as Tom has asked me to do a presentation at TriStar this year which will be the first weekend in March. It is an annual astronomy gathering in the Research Triangle area, hosted by GTC. The little bit that I know about observing is in part due to Tom. He encouraged me to take notes and sketch. I am so glad that our paths crossed. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Dr. Jim Dire </STRONG>is a true research level astronomer and you can read his bio on his website. I can't remember the link at the moment, but google Dr. James Dire astronomy. Maybe... Wildwood Pines Observatory. This will save me a lot of time as he has done much in the field of astronomy. Jim is no longer at GWU, and is tentatively going to be moving to Texas. He has not disclosed his plans as of the moment. Jim is one sharp guy who writes astronomy articles, telescope and equipment reviews for astronomy equipment retailers and manufacturers. He also reviews astronomy textbooks and other. Jim has not been in the area that long, but we have become good friends within the past year. Jim indicated to me that he already has most of the objects for the OC in 2010. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Frank Barrett </STRONG>is a award winning APer. Frank is one super guy. See his website at Celestial Wonders. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Brett Clapper </STRONG>and I have been friend for many years, and observe together whenever possible. Brett is a computer hardware specialist...one great guy. <BR> <BR><STRONG>Fred Rayworth,</STRONG> I don't suppose that I need to say anything about Fred. Just wanted to throw in this picture to prove that I was in Las Vegas for eight days a couple of weeks ago. Fred, as you know is one great guy and have enjoyed getting to know him and Rob.<BR> <BR>Hopefully I can meet many more members of the LVAS. I met John Heller at an observing session and meeting at Redrock, as well as Rob Lambert, back in July 2008. <BR> <BR>Roger Ivester, hey very little to say about me. I am a retired Industrial Engineer... not by choice. Seems as if every company I worked for previous to five years ago either went bankrupt, or just closed. You may not want to offer me a job.
