You witnessed one of those unique things that people don't see very often. One of the many things that makes this hobby worthwhile.

I won't be able to even look at the sky for a week and a half. I've got company. However, weekend after next, the first dark Saturday, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Redstone. The following weekend will be Cathedral Gorge. I hope by then, the remenants of hurricane Jemenez will be gone.
My big thing with Jupiter was seeing the aftereffects of comet Shoemaker Levy in the 90's. Was out at a park near Lawton Oklahoma. We had buffalo wandering around all night. Just had to be careful not to upset one!
All four Galilean moons are "invisible" - either in
> front of, behind, or in the shadow of Jupiter. Ganymede might be just
> barely visible(?) against the face; Europa isn't, though I think
> that's its shadow next to Ganymede. (Later in the night, this will
> turn into a double shadow transit.) Callisto is in Jupiter's shadow
> and basically invisible. Io is completely blocked by the planet.
>
> The start of the event, with Ganymede disappearing from view and
> Europa's shadow coming into view almost simultaneously, was fantastic.
> If you have the chance, it would be worthwhile to catch the end of
> it.
>
> Regards,
>
> Jonathan
> _______________________________________________
> Sent via the Lvas mailing list Lvas@lvlug.org
> Set options or unsubscribe at http://lvlug.org/mailman/listinfo/lvas
> The LVAS discussion list is hosted courtesy of LasVegas.Net

Windows Live: Keep your friends up to date with what you do online. Find out more.
