<STRONG>This is fabulous</STRONG>. I just cannot believe how faint some of these galaxies are, and are still visible "visually" through a telescope as small as a 10-inch. This will be one of our images that we will use in our observing report at the end of this month. This is the first image of this group that I have received. <BR>
<BR>
When I was observing this group last week with my 10-inch I could not see all nine as I once did. There was a lot of pollen in the air creating much light reflection in the atmosphere and this caused my telescope background to be grey instead of the usual "velvety" black. I sometimes think that my eyesight is not as good as it was 15 or more years ago.<BR>
<BR>
I receive some beautiful images from others very frequently, but this galaxy group is one of my favorites. It is 6:15 AM as I write this e-mail and I can't wait to forward to some here on the east coast so they admire the first thing with their coffee. Jim, thank you so much for being a part of the "observing project". <BR>

LVAS all, I am running a bit late on our NGC 2403 report, but hopefully I can get Part II and Part III out by tomorrow...or Saturday latest. <BR>

Our images to be used for NGC 2403 will be by Dr. Jim Dire, and Rob. I also have a new sketch of this object to submit also. This is going to be a far superior report as compared to our first on report which was the "Crab Nebula". <BR>

Re: Virgo Cluster; Jim, and all. I just can't understand why this incredible galaxy group is not "imaged" more often. <BR>

Rob, I am hopeful that you will be able to get this most beautiful galaxy group for our next observing report...or do you already have it? <BR>

If I hadn't known it was there, I would have missed it. In fact, several other people looked at the group and only counted 8. I don't feel bad missing it so many times before!<BR> <BR>I used a 26mm Q-70 eyepiece from Orion. It has a 70 degree field, and despite a fishbowl effect at the edges, I had no problem seeing even the galaxies at the edges. Of course, I moved around a bit to catch each one in the center of the field, but to satisfy the observing challenge, I DID see all 9 at once in the field.<BR> <BR>All of the galaxies, even M-84 and M-86 were featureless. No mottling or any detail at all, but they were all definite faint fuzzies and all had distinct shapes. The most fascinating of the group, to me, was NGC-4388, an edge-on spiral. It was a nice, though faint large streak, and out sized and outclassed the similar NGC-4402.<BR> <BR>This is the stuff I live for! Seeing nine galaxies at once, and being able to positively identify every one of them is a real thrill.<BR> <BR>Attached is my requisite crummy drawing, but it should give you an idea of what you will see if you have enough aperture.<BR> <BR>Fred<BR> <BR><BR></DIV>
