I remembered seeing a sketch of the Virgo galaxy cluster in the AL "Messier Objects" A Beginner's guide...Page 10. I got this book out for a review...

A beautiful sketch by Todd Hargis using a 16-inch scope at 46x. He only shows seven of the nine galaxies. It may be that the 46x was not enough to show the two faintest galaxies. The same problem that I encountered until I increased the magnification as I had mentioned in a previous e-mail.

A quote from the book; "A 6-inch will show at least 5 galaxies in a 1° FOV in favorable conditions. A larger scope may show 9 galaxies in that same FOV".

I could see all nine with my 10-inch but only after using very high magnification and looking in the areas of the fainter members that were invisible at the low power of 57x.

Fred, your scope has the light gathering power and the FOV to show all nine, but will the 48x magnification be too low for the faintest members? I will be most anxious to hear of your results after you have had the opportunity to observe this "fabulous" galaxy cluster.
