All,
Saturday night 7:58 PM EST.
I don't believe that there is a single person in the southeast observing tonight. At current we have a complete cloud covering with the possibility of rain later tonight. I just sent the following e-mail to the local group and thought it might be worthy of the LVAS forum also.
Roger

Re: IC 405, 410 and NGC 1893
Too bad about the weather. We may have some opportunity in the coming week.
Hey, has anyone seen Jim Dire's and Frank Barrett's March images for the LVAS Observers Challenge? I sent an e-mail out earlier about my failure to see IC 405, I 410 and even open cluster NGC-1893. You may recall that I reported the transparency as being very poor with limiting naked eye magnitude being near 4.0 to 4.5.
I look forward to a clear night, hopefully this week with both good seeing and transparency.
Has everyone seen the images of Dr. Dire and Frank? Pretty fabulous! After looking at Dr. Dire's image of I 410 and N-1893 it became pretty obvious why it was difficult to see the boundaries of NGC-1893. See the rich star field surrounding the cluster and nebula on Jim's image. You can easily see the elongated shape of this cluster. Skiff and Luginbuhl note a 15' x 3' dimension using a 10-inch scope. and 15' x 8' with a 12-inch.
It is going to be very interesting to see what Nevada's Rob Lambert's Mallincam image's of this trio will present.
Again this is going to be a difficult object for use poor visual observers. I am hopeful to at least get a sketch of NGC-1893, maybe even a hint of IC 410. Now, IC 405, may be another story.
I am hopeful to be able to work on future "OC" objects this month. They will include, NGC 4889, NGC 4627, 31, 56, and 57, NGC 5907, and M51. I want to be for sure to get IC 342 this month also. it would be wise to work on NGC 188 before the Carolina summer haze sets in. Being so close to polaris it can be observed most anytime. Don't be deceived if you have not attempted N-188 before, it can be easier with a smaller scope than a larger one.
With Sue French participating you will for sure to be a contributor for the May supplemental object which is NGC-4627, 31, 56 and 57.
