Rob,
Re: LVAS website
I think this is great, and feel honored to be a part of this and the LVAS. I plan on visiting LV for a week or so in July, and again in the late fall...hopefully.
We have so many challenges we can go on for as long as there is an interest. Some good examples.
The dark lane that was reported in globular cluster M-2, as reported by John Mallas. It slices one corner off.
The difficult and faint galaxies NGC-147 and NGC-185. Galaxies that are part of our local group, but seldom observed.
The H-II region in M-33 identified as NGC-604.
The smallest scope to show and resolve the open cluster NGC-2158 which is very close to M-35 in Gemini. Skiff can resolve 50 stars with a 10-inch. I have been unable to do so. Another good object that I would like to see through the Mallincam. Mallas had a difficult time seeing this cluster with his 4-inch, but I have always found it very easy with my 4-inch Vixen.
To locate and see the very faint galaxies in the same field with spurious M-40. I believe that they are NGC-4290 and NGC-4284. I would like to see this most beautiful field through the Mallincam.
To see the three star chains extending from globular cluster M-30?
Who can see nebulosity around the asterism M-73. Mallas says no and Skiff says yes. I say, I'm not sure...what about you?
NGC-6822 in Sgr. A very low surface brightness galaxy that I have been unable to see from my backyard. Very large 20' x 10'. This object was missed by Herschel due to the large size and his small field. I am going to my dark site for this one.
NGC-6818 in Sgr. A fairly bright planetary nebula that is only 45' NNW of N-6822.
NGC-6118 very faint galaxy in Serpens Caput; the faintest object of the H-400 list. I have not observed this object due to my poor southerly view. I am going to my new dark site this year. I have put this object off long enough.
The list could easily go on and on...as this is just off the top of my head, so to speak. We have many "challenges" to choose from in the future.
