Hello all,
I visited the LVAS meeting last Thursday and subscribed to this list
so thought I should at least say hello and give a brief introduction.
I have been living in LV for a little over a year and was finally able
to make an LVAS meeting, so I was happy about that. I work at UNLV
and my wife Maura and I just bought a house in Henderson (near
Wagonwheel and the 515) so it looks like we are here to stay for
awhile. After living in an apartment for near a year I finally
unpacked most of my stuff so things are moving along.
As for astronomy, I have been hanging around the hobby off and on
since the 60's but lately more off than on so hope to get going again.
I was pretty active in the Hawaiian Astronomical Society in the early
90's but when I moved to Minnesota in '94 the winters sort of put a
chill on the hobby but I still stayed in touch with a University of ND
club in Grand Forks.
I have a few scopes: a 10 inch LX-200, a few 6 inchers, a C-90 and an
Orion Short Tube 90. Also have a few pairs of binoculars. The stuff
sort of accumulates over the years. Mostly I just look around, so I
am a pretty casual observer. I have an older CCD camera but it needs
an overhaul. It frosts up when the peltier is on, so hey, maybe that
won't be a problem anymore here with the lower humidity!?!
When I was in Hawaii one of the things I liked to do was help out at
the Bishop Museum's public observing nights with their 16 inch (??)
telescope. I thought I may try to help out with some of the LVAS
public events. Sounds like you have a good group here that supports
that.
I also have a technician class ham license (KC0JER), so be interested
to know if any other LVAS members dabble in radio.
Well, I ramble so will put this to rest and hope you all have a good
day. Looking forward to the Red Rock event this weekend, I hope to
make it.
