[Lvas] Mallincam performed flawlessly at Redrock

In support of the teachers, we had many different types of telescopes
and binoculars set up at Redrock's Sandstone Quarry Saturday night.
Many people were stunned by the full color images on my DVD player's
screen from the Mallincam CCD video camera. The Trifid (M20) had detail
in it that John Heller said he had never seen before. I t was an
unqualified success. I plan to image the Horsehead, and Flame Nebulae
at Cathedral Gorge this weekend. I'm so completely happy with this
unit! CCD capability and electronics, for me, has completely overcome
my need for more aperture. I honestly believe it would take 40 or more
inches of aperture to get what I see with a simple 10 inch Schmidt scope
now. Rather than showing one person at a time, and explaining to each
one at a time, I can show 20 or 30 at once. I don't have to worry about
the unique focus problem for each individual. Kids that are very young
have no problem figuring out where and how to look in the EP anymore. I
can't tell you how many times I get from young and old "I don't see
anything", because of focus, glasses or eye relief issues. I can point
out features on the screen which would be very challenging to "describe"
to someone looking in the eyepiece. In fact, most features you can see
with the Mallincam are just not visible at the Eyepiece. This thing
seems to have almost no drawbacks.

One happy camper...
